“…because in the United States of America, no one should go broke because they chose to go to college.” -President Barack Obama, State of the Union Address, January 27, 2010

We take the stress out of paying for college!

Financial planning for the college years is different than any other type of financial planning.  The parent’s dilemma is how to pay for college with out sacrificing their upcoming retirement.   “How old will you be when your youngest child graduates from college?”

For our families whose children are not yet in college, we teach the basics of Financial Aid.  The Financial Aid formula is complex and created by the Department of Education – the formula is based on household income, assets, number of members in household, age of parents and siblings and more.

There are 2 types of Financial Aid:

  • NEED BASED AID is based on the Family Income and Assets.  Need Based aid may be free money such as scholarships and grants, as well as student loans, parent loans and student work-study.
  • MERIT AID is based solely on the merit of the Student rather than the financial need of the family!!   Families who do not qualify for need based aid may qualify for Merit Awards.  Merit Aid is distributed in the form of Scholarships and Grants.  This is “free money” and does not have to be repaid.

We work with your family to determine:

  • Your Eligibility  for Need Based Aid or Merit Aid
  • How much college will cost - Your EFC Analysis (Expected Family Contribution).
  • Your Eligibility for Pell Grants or Cal Grants. (Cal Grants are for California Residents)
  • Guidance and Review of the FAFSA & CSS Profile Forms
  • We will explain the different types of self-help aid and help you minimize student loans:
    • Stafford Student Loans
    •  PLUS Parent Loans
    • Student Work-Study

We use sound business planning and proven techniques to help your family make college affordable without sacrificing your retirement or disrupting your current lifestyle.

The plan is easy to understand, easy to follow and takes stress off of the family.   We create an individualized plan for each family which may include some or all of the following:

  • Tax Savings and Cash Flow Enhancement
  • Debt Reduction & Debt Management
  • Positioning Income & Assets during the college years (if appropriate)
  • Determining your Student’s “Tax Capacity”
  • Student Loan Evaluation and Counseling

Once the plan is developed, we will coach you through the implementation of the plan.  We will work with your current Accountant, Attorney and Financial Professional.

We will review the Financial Aid offers to determine which school is offering the best financial package for your family.

Because we do not sell any financial products, you are assured of easy to understand, unbiased recommendations that focus on your unique family circumstances.

Whether you are a young family just starting out, a family with Grade School or High School Students or a family or graduate student already saddled with student loans, we can provide a Personalized Financial Solution.
